The love of music and of God can never hide the inadequacies of formal training. In open admission, "the towgays" mean little to some one who lacks the technical know how of music. Having self taught the guitar and Level 1 music-piano lesson must surely "disqualify" one from standing up in front to conduct.
Here I am with 5 loaves & 2 fish..........
Yet, it take an understanding of essence of the words behind the music, the message of composer which have set these sometimes "hidden" meanings in the musical notes.......like literature & poetry (hmm...love those!) ie expression & dynamics ??. The "how to sing the piece" vs "What notes to song"
Then it takes the ability to bring across the meaning thru' an intrepretation and have the rest of world feel and understand what it being communicated ....that makes "teaching" difficult especially when the inter-related "how to" and "what to" is inseparable ...again formal training becomes sooo important.
Finally it takes courage and confidence to open oneself and being vulnerable to anyone and everyone who intreprets music differently, have a different style, understand music better or just have a comment ...that makes standing on the podium soooo difficult.
Never hide from inadequacies and lack of talent...allow someone better to stand up or accept the responsibility of conducting ...Having done so in the past.....today few want (or have the courage) to step into the shoes.......identifying the level of difficulty of the song or not knowing the hymn.....who then?
Having bought a piano (last year) to try and fulfill my life long dream to play it......to have the music in head and song in my heart...flow thru' the fingers..oh what joy!
It is time-management, which is a struggle today.......or is it over-commitment!
Time to really think about it...zzzzzzzzzz
