weddings again...

WEDDINGS AS EVENGELISATION....

"A wedding mass is one of the rare occasions when we have a large number of
non-Christian and non-Catholics coming to the church. It is an opportunity
to introduce the church to the guests.

Maybe the choir singing for the mass can evangelise by recommending
meaningful hymns and singing well?

Meaningful hymns bring out values and makes people think. Good singing gives
the guests a positive feeling of the church; maybe they will come again?

What do you think?"

***
Of course beautiful singing and meaningful hymns bring out the mood and ambience of a wedding. Which implies that the QUALITY of the music has to be EXCELLENT!!!!!

EVANGELISE....
Not really.
People will form an impression of the church.
I've attended Christian weddings, a methodist and a presbytarian....
It is a new insight, I was there to witness to the wedding of my friends and share their joy....don't think I was evangelised.

"I propose we share with her the same fee schedule as the
recommended charge and tell R that we will accept love offering of the
couple's choice."

This is very tiring....
After walking one big round, we are back to accepting a love offering.

I WANT TO SHOUT IT OUT!!!!!!

WEDDINGS ARE NOT CHARITY.

So it is back to that $20 ang pow.......er, no thanks...thank you very much.

*****
And so at the end of the day....
I guess we need to let the people who feel that weddings are evangelisation...go and evangelise by their presence and singing.
We need to let the lone organist....volunteer his services....until he gets tired of being given $20.....minus the entrance and exit....and you can only pick the more contemporary pieces that the organist can play.....
And we need to let this organist rest her case about people stop treating musicians like '2nd class citizens'.....whose skill is much needed....but unfortunately only worth $20.
