The problem with Beautiful Singing....

I am down with flu....
haha...now I know why we were slotted for Maundy Thurs and I was not rostered to play this Easter!

So here I was sitting somewhere in the center at the 3pm service for Good Friday. LCC was singing. They need more guy singers. Anyway, back to the topic of BEAUTIFUL SINGING:

Is that a problem?
Well, they sang beautifully in Latin, the cantors sang beautifully, the oboe/clarinet/saxophone????don't know which....had a melodious, rich, soulful tone....tada...tada...
They chose to do it semi-acappella style to create a sombre atmosphere.
Er....I think the Organ rather than Piano would have done that more effectively.

Ok, so all that well crafted choreography produced a non-participative congregation.

SERIOUSLY....
We hear the female cantor sing over the mic.
So, we just LISTEN.
I mean, I was too afraid to SING.
So, I too, just LISTENED.
And so the church was rather quiet I must say.
The Choir sang, and they sang, and they sang.....
hmmmm.....

Then the Choir came in with "ou-oooooooo".....and I thought, is congregation also suppose to "ou-oooooo"?? So again, I kept quiet.

Then they broke into LATIN.
Yo....the doctor sang the Latin beautifully.
I felt totally alienated.
Hey....English subtitles provided on the big screen.
So I read the subtitles while the Cantor sang away

****
I remember we used to do the 5:30pm slot last year.
RCC is doing that this year.

Let me rant a bit:
SCC wants midnight mass in 2007, RCC said they will give us in 2008....hmmm....
SCC has merrily been doing Good Friday Mass, RCC decides this year they want to do that.
I don't understand why must SCC relent all the time?
