Recently a friend spoke briefly about wanting to do mission work. And what is our understanding of mission work?
For me, it is a desire to reach out and be the face of Christ to others.
The call to engage in mission work is like any vocational calling, from God.
And as with all callings it entails discernment and prayer.
Maybe the intention is good, the goal is good, the motivation though is questionable.
If one is reaching out to make oneself FEEL GOOD, then that is selfish.
Still, God can work around that.
I was once advised by my prayer guide not to use prayer as a drug.
Pop a panadol when you have a headache....or something to the effect of dialling for God as a SOS number.
Nothing wrong with dialling God in SOS situations. In fact, it is good that the one 'person' you think of hollering out in times of need is GOD shows that he is important in your life.
But on the contrary, what my prayer guide was trying to tell me was to be still and LISTEN.
LISTEN....
That week of guided prayer is an excellent place to learn how to listen.
I try to do more of that now when I pray.
Or else, I am just as human as anyone else out there.
Usually the loudest voice I hear in my stillness is my own.
